About Captains

Captains is one of the fastest growing media companies in The Netherlands with the ambition to become the non-fiction Disney at some point. We make films, series and videos for local and international agencies, brands and media told through the beauty of fiction and made by people with love for their work and a pragmatic mentality.

After 7 years, Captains’ position in the market is strong; we have a high quality group of great clients and cases, a very ambitious and strong team of almost thirty producers, editors, creators and staff alongside an exemplary network of talented and prized makers. From this position we are opening up to the next step in growing as a company.

Vacancy

And that’s why this position is officially open. We are looking for a business developer to extend our client portfolio of agencies and brands. Both national and internationally.

We are looking for a new captain who believes in our work and our ambition. Someone who loves the adventure that comes with a fast growing young company. Someone with the commercial talent to recognize opportunities and who has the courage to take these opportunities. We are looking for someone who enriches us.

We often bring up talent within our organisation, and that includes the commercial field, but relevant experience is a must for this position. We expect immediate deployability on our biggest opportunities and projects. That’s why we are looking for someone with at least 3 years of experience in a commercial position at production houses or agencies. Someone who can get started right away with their own network.

We offer

  • A full time appointment for one year, with the important goal of permanent employment
  • A good salary
  • Pension scheme, laptop, reimbursement for telephone costs, an allowance for travel costs and a gym membership.
  • A massage every month, and a yearly workspace in the sun at the Captains’ Villa
  • A lot of freedom. You decide your own work schedule, make your own investments and if successful you can hire new colleagues. You will get the chance to independently make lots of decision.
  • A dedicated and cheerful team. If you can play a bit of football, we have a spot reserved for you in our futsal team. If you’re musically inclined, then you can play in our band.
  • Unlimited vacation days. You know best what’s good for you.
  • A pleasant work environment. We don’t have any unnecessary management layers and consider happy employees the most important.
  • The chance to fill your network with a strong, already existent network of Captains within brands, agencies and media in all sectors.
  • An exciting adventure at a pleasant and ambitious company at the brink of an international breakthrough.
The job

The position of business developer can be divided into a number of main activities. Your most important responsibility is creating new business. You showcase Captains, are an ambassador of the company and tell Captains’ story in boardrooms, on stages and unfortunately sometimes in fluorescent lit meeting rooms. You will use your own and our network. You also feel comfortable in networking environments.

You are able to recognize where commercial opportunities lie. You are familiar with the entire commercial process. From recognising opportunities to making a deal. You are also good at working together with a creative team that feeds you with input for your presentations. You will be working directly with each discipline within the organisation of Captains.

You are used to working with leading agencies and top brands. You know their needs and how to work with them. You are able to convince and inspire them with a good idea, but never abuse that power and you always keep the long term relationships and interests of the customer in mind.

Finally, you will be busy with the commercial-strategic positioning of Captains in the (international) market. You play an important role in deciding the commercial course of the organisation. The direction of the company is crystal clear, the route towards it is your puzzle.

Who are we looking for?

Your profile

  • At least 3 years of experience in the world of film- and video productions for brands and agencies.
  • A relevant network of DMU’s and marketeers at agencies and top brands.
  • The social and strategic talent to generate support within a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • The confidence that the targets set together will be achieved.
  • Ability to use our (international) cases to generate new leads.
  • A good proficiency in English.

And this is what you will be doing

Who will be your colleagues?
Why do you work at Captains?

Because Captains makes you feel like Captains is yours.

What did you do before this?

I worked for different big television production companies in Amsterdam and Hilversum

What do you do in your free time?

Sports, gaming and exploring.

Frank van der Stelt (25)

Producer
Why do you work at Captains?

Because the work environment is very nice and the entire team is ambitious.

We work on a basis of trust and look at people’s strengths.

But the main reason is our really fun football team, where everyone can come and join in.

What did you do before this?

I worked as an assistant-accountant for 6 years at an accounting firm in The Hague.

What do you do in your free time?

Spend as much time as I can with family and friends.

Nada Kreber (27)

Financial controller
Why do you work at Captains?

I could have said that “after months of applying for jobs, my application with Jop and Remy was the first one that got me excited. Their ambition is more contagious than the delta variant, and I also got the impression that they knew how to deal with a recalcitrant guy like me.” But they didn’t hire me at the time…

What did you do before this?

After finishing my business economics study at Erasmus University I ended up at a startup in The Hague. But after a year and a half I decided I wanted to know what it’s like to have more colleague’s other than your boss.

What do you do in your free time?

I try to play on the Captains Futsal team (as a korfball player), try to make my fixer-upper house habitable, and listen to (live) music.

Boudewijn (30)

Chief Operating Officer (COO)
